Islam Animal Belief

The treatment towards animals in Islam and Judaism are very similar. In both religions it is strongly believed that animals should be treated with kindness, compassion, and respect. One of the similar beliefs between Islam and Judaism is that G-d or Allah created all animals. Another one of the many similarities between Islam and Judaism is that treating animals cruelly is forbidden, and that when killing an animal for food you must kill it in a way were the animal feels no pain or suffering. The only way a Muslim can eat meat is if it is killed according to Sharia Law. Some of the rules for slaughtering an animal is that it must be done by a sane adult Muslim man, the slaughterer must say the name of G-d before slaughtering the animal, the animal must be well treated before it is slaughtered, and that it, must not see any other animals being killed. All of these rules are also portrayed in Judaism. In the Islam religion you must not hunt animals for sport, and that you must not have animals fight for sport. Like it is stated in the Torah for Judaism it says in the Qur’an that using animals for human benefit is allowed. Just like Judaism in Islam it is allowed to test or research animals only of there is a good reason for the experiment and if the animal that is getting tested or researched is not harmed in any way. In conclusion Islam and Judaism have very similar beliefs in the way animals are treated.

In my opinion, I think that the way the Islam religion treats animals is respectable. They are only using animals if it is for food, research, testing, or anything that is desperately needed. In comparsion to what is happening in the world right now, the Islam religion is a bit different. It is different because Islamic people treat animals with more respect than the rest of the world does. It did not surprise me because I knew that they treated animals with care. What I learned could make the world look at things differently, because different people could learn from the  way they treat animals. This is interesting to know because it is fascinating to learn the way different religions care for animals.

Animals In Ancient Rome

Animals in Ancient Rome

             In every day life, the Romans in Ancient times would use animals in many different ways. The Romans were very interested in wild animals. They would love to look at them, observe their uniqueness, watch them play, and watch them be hunted and killed. There were many exotic animals in Rome. Even though there were no zoos in Ancient Rome, the Colosseum was used for many animal events and others like the Gladiator fights. An example of when the Romans would look at animals would be when monkeys would be dressed as soldiers and get carried around by goats on chariots. One of the most famous and resourceful animals in ancient Rome were the Elephants. Not only were Elephants used in the Coliseum but they were also used for other things like transporting wealthy men and woman to dinner. Elephants were also used for in trade. For example, in building trade the Elephants would carry, lift, and pull huge weights. Elephants were also used as a secret weapon for the military because the enemies have never seen this big and strange looking animal before. Overall, animals were used for

            I think that the way animals were treated in ancient Roman times were inhumane and not fair to the animals. The animals were getting abused and were used for other purposes such as, entertainment, war, transportation, trade, etc. In the world now animals still get treated with disrespect and in an inhuman way. I do not think that the way animals are getting treated is better now than it was in ancient Roman times. I was not surprised by the way animals were treated because Romans were aggressive and vicious people. Many of their city-states were known for war and battle. It is interesting to know because it shows that the world is not progressing in the way animals are treated and that we need to change our ways.

Animals in Ancient Greece

In Ancient Greece animals were often used for entrainment purposes. For example, since early times animals were used in the Olympic Games. This is where the use of animal cruelty was seen most during Ancient Greek times. The Olympic games were a series of events that had the best athletes competing against each other for the title of “best in the world”. During these games they would sacrifice for pleasure and entertainment. Animal sacrifice was one of the biggest part of the ceremonies. For example, there would be pigeon shooting during the opening of the games. There were also many other animals sacrificed and shot during these games such as deers. Animals were also used with athletes during the games.

In comparison to the Olympics in Ancient Greece animals are not used for competition in the Olympics. Today animals are seen in a different light and more respected then they where in the time of Ancient Greece. Although animals are endangered today, they are not legally used for sacrificing purposes. This is the main difference between ancient Greece and present day. What surprised me was the way animas where used for entertainment purposes in Ancient Greece and how disrespectful and inhuman they where treated. It makes look at the world differently because it shows that the world is advancing in the way it treats animals and that the world will continue to advance. This can help combat the injustice today because it shows the the world is advancing in the way it mistreats animals and that in the next years the world will stop specific things like animals testing. It is interesting to know because it helps show the way the world is evolving and will continue to evolve.

Animals in Ancient India

In Ancient India animals were very important to the Indian people. Indian people looked at animals as equal to humans and at times even more important.  Animals where loved and some were even worshipped. To show how important animals were to the Indian they were given ranks of higher power such as Gods and Goddesses. The most important animal to the Indian people were cows. In India cows where not eaten and therefore were not an endangered animal. In India there were also many wild animals. Some of these animals include tigers, monkeys, snakes, etc. Animals where sometimes caught in the wild to work. For example elephants were sometimes caught in the wild to help build houses, carry heavy loads, and fight in war. Another way that animals where important was that they were put in many festivals and activities. Overall animals had great importance in India and where not endangered because they were seen as a higher power.

In todays society and in some cultures animals are still worshiped, however, there are many places around the world that slaughter animals for food and goods. Indians believed that animals were higher and seen as gods, today there are slaughter houses around the world that kill thousands of cows and animals at a time. Although in India they may still be worshiped, there are still places that kill animals by the masses. It was surprising to learn that cows were seen at a higher rank then humans. I was surprised because today in our society, cows are not as respected and are eaten throughout the world. Through the Indians belief we could look at the world differently by respecting animals more and treating them with respect. This could help combat injustice by treating animals more humanely and by changing the way we treat animals. This is interesting to know because it shows us that animals are more than just food and teaches us about the way different cultures view animals. It teaches us to treat animals with more respect.

Justice Purpose Questions

• 1. What is the Injustice that you want to learn about and  give your energy, thoughts, and ideas to fight?

The Injustice that I want to learn about and give energy to is people hunting beautiful and endangered animals. Specially, when individuals use animals for their skin or other parts in its body.

◦ Why did you pick this particular subject? Why do you want to help?

I picked this topic because I passionate about animals and want to help save them from becoming extinct. It is inhuman to treat animals in these particular ways.

• 2. What would happen if I didn’t care about this subject? If I did nothing? If I never gave my thoughts and ideas about the subject to the world?

If I didn't care about this problem and did nothing, animals like tigers would be extinct today. I working on informing the community regarding endangered animals and the truth behind the way some animals are treated.

In the article, “Humans are Still Killing Substantial Number of Whales, New Analysis Finds”, it talks about how humans have a large influence of the amount of whales that are dying. Research from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, stated that there were many deaths and strandings of whales from the Eastern coast of the US and Canada. It was stated that there were 1762 deaths for about eight different types of whales.The study showed that that 28% of the deaths were because of humans and their interactions. Some of these interactions are through humans fishing and boat riding. The article states that there are certain laws that protects whales. The Ship Strike Rule, says that boats can not go a certain speed during specific times in order to take care of the whales better. However, not many boat drivers followed this law. Overall, they want these laws renewed and better enforced.

In my opinion, I think that this law needs to be held more seriously and more enforced. People should have serious consequences to driving their boat at such a high speed that it could hurt the whales. If this keeps on happening without a cost for people, the whales will continue to die and will become seriously endangered. It is important to realize what humans are doing to these animals because if no one does anything they will soon all become extinct. We need to raise awareness and inform people on what is going on with the whales and with other endangered animals.
